The chasm widens as Celtic feel glad all over !

It used to be a gap but now it is a chasm. Celtic strolled into 2017 on the back of a comprehensive victory at Ibrox. The Bhoys overcame a shaky start to pummel the second placed team into submission and the biggest surprise in the end was that it was only 2-1.

In the Stayinguplate household the minute silence was impeccably observed, pretty much like at Ibrox. I heard only one unidentified person shouting but everyone else was on best behaviour. Our support, as ever, showed their class by being silent for the minute then singing for the next ninety.When you are outnumbered at Ibrox the feeling of togetherness is intensified and you shout and sing a wee bit louder in defiance.On television you could have sworn we were at home such was the noise generated by our support. Take a bow fholks.

With kick off at 11.15 pm local time we agreed that all Happy New Year stuff would wait til half time. We were hoping for fireworks but it was the home side who started better, winning challenges and pressing us high. Celtic were not fluid and looked out of sorts. The Sevco winger Barrie McKay started like a world beater and was causing us all sorts of problems coming in from the left flank. It was no surprise to us when they took the lead with 96 year old Kenny Miller slotting home.

I thought that would be the catalyst for us to start playing but still we looked unsure and unsteady at the back.

As the old saying goes, ” Form is temporary, class is permanent”  and once we clicked into gear our class shone through. From about the half hour onwards we battered them and when big Moussa scored his usual goal against his bunny team there was only going to be one winner.

Second half we controlled the game and it was only a matter of time before we scored as the woodwork and their goalie Foderingham kept us at bay.

Scott Sinclair duly notched the winner after a fine move and beautiful cross from the ever willing and very impressive Stuart Armstrong.

Second half was a breeze. Stuart and Broony dominated midfield. Izzy was bombing forward at every opportunity and at times Scotty and Moussa were simply unplayable. The last five minutes were comical with Moussa basically toying with them using his strength and skill to play them on his own ( he won 🙂 ).

It was really weird watching a game as the New Year came upon us and not unenjoyable!! The games v Sevco may be viewed as big games but only because of the media hype. The reality is that we have played them three times this season and have had a cumulative total of  67 efforts on goal.They have had 24.  That suggests to me we are more than comfortable playing them. We were without KT and Tom Rogic but still have more than enough in our squad to show that the chasm is growing.Too easy, too good.

I know that Tims all around the globe will have been celebrating the end of a year that just got better and better as it went on.Happy 2017 to one and all.
